The quote “If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all” has been around so long that it cannot be attributed to any one person. I used this quote to speak about another piece of art back in July of 2010 but I think it will fit here as well. When I first saw this work, I truly thought "Star Fox" in my mind as I checked out the thumbnail. Krystal's blue color is too unique to fit another mold. When the picture was fully loaded, some other ideas came to mind.
First, I was caught off guard as I thought that their ears and snouts felt a bit out of place. The longer more-rounded snouts in tandem with the larger and higher ears had me thinking these were kangaroos. I took this train of thought a metaphorical “station further” and reviewed some photos of kangaroos and foxes to check myself. After looking over various photos, I realized that this work was more accurate than I first thought. In particular, I’d say the ears fit well.
I happened to agree with the other comments that Krystal looked masculine. The feminine curves that are typical to most women were not apparent in this picture. I think a quick fix might be achieved with more feminine eye lashes. A change in clothes could also help but that would change what you were trying to convey in this piece.
All of that said I refer back to the quote. “If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.” This is very nice work and I hope to see more in the future.
Well thank you Ponjos for your very thoughtful comment, and don't worry about not saying anything nice, to me a Critique from someone means that they want you to improve and that is very nice . I think what really happened with Krystal here is that I want here to look feminine but without all the exaggerated stereotypes, but unfortunately I feel that I fail that challenge . and thanks very much again for taking enough interest in my work, and taking the time to write such long, well thought out, (and researched) comment.
